DEER ISLE – Rebecca Arlene Guptill went home to be with her Lord, Nov. 23, 2006, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Rebecca was born July 1, 1938, in Stonington, the daughter of Virgil and Mary Rice. She was a hair dresser for many years and was also a certified nurses assistant, working at Collier’s and Penobscot nursing homes. She enjoyed helping others and generously volunteered her time making others happy. Singing and playing her guitar at benefits and social events to the enjoyment of others pleased her most. She volunteered her time and talents cooking and delivering food to the HOME co-op in Orland. In recent years, she gave of her time organizing events at the Deer Run Community Center, Deer Isle. Rebecca devoted her time to family and friends. She had several hobbies, reading and gardening, and she especially loved music and cats. Rebecca was predeceased by her parents, Virgil Rice and Mary Dunham; by her sisters, Nadine Rice and Helen Gray; a brother, David Rice; and a very dear friend, Dot Carter. Surviving are her sisters, Nellie Eaton of Stonington, Barbara Eaton of Stonington, Natalie Eaton of Deer Isle, Denice Wilbur and her husband, Dale, of Sullivan; a daughter, Shirley Trundy and her husband, Alan, of Deer Isle; a daughter, Sally Lash of Waldoboro; a son, Philip Lash of Cushing; a son, Albert Lash and his wife, Cindy, of Stonington; a son, Christopher Lash and his wife, Fay, of Thomaston; an aunt, Letha Bray of Stonington; a sister-in-law, Pat Rice of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ruth Billings, and her many friends at Deer Run Apartments. Rebecca will be remembered fondly and always live on in our hearts.
