ELLSWORTH – Rebecca “Becky” (Chalmers) Black, 76, died unexpectedly Aug. 5, 2008, at her residence on Green Lake. She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Belfast, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Fogg) Chalmers. Becky was the president of the Loon Society, Ellsworth, as well as the loon coordinator on Green Lake. She was the election warden for the City of Ellsworth. Becky was an avid knitter and donated many mittens to Manna Ministries to help people stay warm. She was the president and treasurer of Black Crane Service where she worked with her husband. Becky also worked for the Eastern Agency of Aging for a number of years. She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Edward “Ed” Black of Ellsworth; two brothers, Ronald “Buddy” Chalmers of Bangor, and James Chalmers and wife, Shirley, of Orrington; a sister, Barbara Delong of Roanoke, Va.; many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Advent Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
