LAKE GROVE, N.Y. – Rebecca Faye (Connor) Ricker, known by all as “Becky,” passed on Easter morning, April 16, 2006, in the Rocky Mountains outside of Denver, Colo. Her soul rose with Jesus the Christ in the early morning hours just before sunrise. Becky was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Bangor. Becky was a participant in the organ donor program. On Tuesday morning, her organs along with skin tissue and bones were harvested and several recipients in the Denver area received the blessing and gift of renewed life. Becky had a very deep and strong faith with a passion to give to others. Her years growing up in Maine were filled with activities of sports, school (honors), community and church. She graduated Bangor High School in 1963 and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College graduating with a bachelor’s of science in nursing in 1967. She began her working career as a pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Mass., marrying her husband, Arthur, that fall. Her career continued to this day in pediatrics at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center after the family moved to Long Island in 1975, caring for pediatric patients for more than 39 years. Becky continued her studies in many areas including New Brunswick Theological, leading towards a planned second career in pastoral care in a hospital/hospice care setting in the future. She has served her local church in many leadership areas as guided by the call of the Holy Spirit. She has served on church boards, in youth ministry for more than 10 years, instituted and ran a local church soup kitchen, trained Eucharistic ministers and led many study groups. Becky was involved with the Walk to Emmaus and Jesus Alive. She was filled with life and spirit as she continued to explore and serve her Lord through ministry- touching and giving to others. Becky is survived by her husband, Arthur; her children, Todd, Kristina, Christina and Cassidy; grandson, Lawson; son-in-law, Lawrence; brother, Gary; and her Godchildren, Sherry, Thomas, Monique, Paula and Michael. Becky was preceded in the resurrection by her parents, Edward and Barbara Connor. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held Saturday, April 29, at Aldersgate Chapel located at Camp Quinipet, Shelter Island Heights. It will be a time of fellowship, sharing and remembering beginning 1:30 p.m. service at 3 p.m. followed by additional time of fellowship, sharing and remembering after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to “Rebecca Ricker Memorial Fund,” Commerce Bank, 6190 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, NY 11725. The memorial will be given to the various charities Becky supported that helped many, especially children, at the grass roots level. Becky lived life with a ‘passion for giving’. She found great strength in the scriptures especially in John 14:6 when Jesus said to Becky, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” God Bless your day. May all your dreams and visions for life be enhanced by your spirit in Christ. LOL Arthur
