CUSHING – Redington R. Robbins Jr., 87, a resident of Pleasant Point Road and longtime assessor and selectman for the Town of Cushing, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Pen Bay Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Robbins was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Thomaston, the son of Redington R. and Nellie Loring Jones Robbins. He attended Thomaston and Miami schools. Mr. Robbins had married Celia Belle Wall in 1940, in Florida, before they moved to Chicago, where he attended Coyne Electrical School. He owned and operated a dude ranch in Hialeah, Fla. He entered the U.S. Army in Florida, and served in the Philippines and South East Asia. They returned to Florida, where he was employed by the Hialeah Race Track, Hialeah, Fla., for 27 years. During the summer months he would return to Maine, where he would lobster out of Maple Juice Cove, Cushing. He was proud of earning his general education degree in 1967. A longtime public servant, he served the Town of Cushing as an assessor and town selectman for many years. He is predeceased by his wife, Celia Belle Robbins; a sister, Ruth Estella Gray; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Marie Burns; and his longtime friend, Phyllis Watson. Survivors include two sons, Redington R. Robbins III and his wife, Susette A. Robbins, of Bangor and Randolph Wall Robbins and his wife, Karen, of Cushing; grandchildren, Deirdre Loring McIntyre of Clifton, Angela Page Robbins of Bangor, Ryan Redington Robbins of Bangor, Jason Wall Robbins of Baltimore, Md., Amie Elizabeth Burns of Rockland, Emilie Rebekah Robbins and Carrie Beth Robbins, both of Cushing; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett Michael Burns of Rockland, Wyatt Redington McIntyre of Clifton and Nina Joy Robbins of Baltimore, Md. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Pleasant Point Cemetery, Cushing, with Pastor Robert Colby officiating.
