LEVANT – Reginald “Al” Griffin, 85, died peacefully June 13, 2008, with his family by his side at a Brewer health care center. He was born July 6, 1922, in Levant, the son of Arthur S. and Doris L. (Batchelder) Griffin. Al was a well-known and respected mechanic for many years, owning his own garage on Buck Street, Bangor, for many years. He was later employed with Hedge and Mathes, Merrill Transport and Sanborn Motor Express. Al enjoyed working on his farm and repairing old tractors. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter. Surviving are four children, Reginald A. Griffin Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Jackman, Timothy A. Griffin of Bangor, Raymond J. Griffin and his wife, Lenore, of Jackman and Mar-ilyn A. Wood and her husband, Merle, of Hooksett, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond N. Griffin and his wife, Thelma, Paul F. Griffin and his wife, Mary, and Galen “Peter” Griffin, all of Levant; two sisters, Betty Treadwell and her husband, the Rev. Robert Treadwell, of Veazie and Marie Kohtala and her husband, Edwin, of Vienna; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline (Read) Griffin; a brother, Arthur Stanley Griffin Jr.; and a sister, Edna Louise Arnold. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with the Rev. Stanley Griffin, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant.
