CARIBOU – Olin Lemuel Thompson Jr., 62, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ June 13, 2008, while surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Olin was born Feb. 9, 1946, in Caribou, the son of Olin L. and Avis (Wright) Thompson. Olin attended schools in Caribou, including Wright Country School on Madawaska Road, then graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1964, where Olin was in the Caribou High School band and played the clarinet. Olin then went to pursue his love of creative hair styling by attending Portsmouth Beauty College, Portsmouth, N.H., and after completing a course in advanced cosmetology at Connecticut University, he worked for a short time at Salon Continental, Portsmouth, N.H. In 1966 Olin came home to Caribou and opened his own beauty shop called “Coiffeurs by Mr. Olin.” During the 43 years of his cosmetology career, Olin built many friendships and sometimes this gave him an opportunity to witness his Christian faith to others. Olin was a lifelong member of Caribou United Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the finance committee for several years. Olin was a willing participant as a worker, consultant or voice in the Living Christmas Tree and Easter Cantata productions. Olin also enjoyed helping on Shut-In Sunday and supported many other ongoing church activities. He will be sadly missed by family including his dearly beloved mother, Avis P. Thompson of Caribou; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dana L. and Penny Thompson and Roger P. and Bea Thompson, both of Madawaska Road, Car-ibou; his nephew, Shannon C. Thompson of Auburn; and his niece, Idella P. Thompson of Caribou. Olin will be fondly remembered by many friends and clients. Olin was predeceased by his father, Olin L. Thompson Sr., July 19, 1993. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Fred H. and Idella M. (Andrews) Thompson; his maternal grandparents, Harry P. and Jennie (Thompson) Wright; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Caribou United Baptist Church with the Rev. John Kiehn, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
