WATERVILLE, LIMESTONE and MYAKKA CITY, Fla. Reginald “Reg” Bernard Albert, 72, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia. He was born April 14, 1936, the son of Wilfred and Minnie (Rossignol) Albert. Reg graduated from Limestone High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years, where he was an operator of heavy body equipment. He married Gloria O’Neal of Caswell, Oct. 22, 1955. Reg was postmaster of Caribou Post Office before becoming postmaster of Waterville from 1984 to 1990, where he retired after 34 years of postal service. Reg and Gloria spent their retirement years in Punta Gorda, Fla. Reg spent the last seven years working at Legacy Golf Course, Bradenton, Fla., where his son, Denny, is superintendent. Many people were taught and entertained through Reg’s love of square dance. He taught square dance lessons for 30 years in Maine and Florida. Reg is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gloria (O’Neal) Albert; children, Kathy Lawrence and her husband, William, of Bangor, Jackie Sawyer and her husband, Paul, of Fort Myers, Fla., Steve Albert and his wife, Kathy, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Connie Drost of Bangor and Denny Albert and his wife, Brandy, of Myakka City, Fla.; sister, Cynthia Larsen of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Lindsay Lawrence, Sara Sawyer, Katelyn Albert, Kristyn Albert, Dillan Drost and Derek Drost; great-grandchildren, Donavan and Brody McKenzie; and special in-laws, Wayne and Marilyn Thibeau, and Steve and Christine Poitras. Reg was also loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider.
