MILLINOCKET – Renato P. “Una” Ippoliti, 88, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Millinocket, the son of Angelo and Anna (Monaco) Ippoliti. Una was born and raised in Millinocket, where he attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, serving in Germany, France, Italy and England. He was a gunner on the Queen Mary when it carried World War II troops to Europe, and he was with the first wave of soldiers onto the beach at Normandy. He returned home to his work at the Great Northern Paper Co. mill. He retired from the mill in 1981, after 42 and one-half years of service. His masonry skills contributed to many walls, steps and fireplaces in Millinocket. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 80 and VFW. Post No. 4154 and a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1521. Una was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Una was an avid gardener. He loved his garden and had a magic touch with growing tomatoes. He would share his garden’s bounty with all his friends and neighbors. He loved to cook and his fishing trip stories were not about what he caught, they were about what he cooked for the men and how fast they ate it. Una could be recognized by many people in town from his association with his walking buddies, namely, Philip Lyons, Ernie Murphy, Charlie Murphy and Tunny Bellfleur. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joan (Gallo) Ippoliti of Millinocket; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Anthony and Lorrian Ippoliti of Long Beach, Calif.; his daughter and son-in-law. Mary-Ellen and Thomas Kennedy of Weston, Mass.; his sisters, Mary Bickford of Millinocket, Agnes Zak and Eva Fitzgerald, both of Lady Lake, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three siblings, Victor, Isabelle and Neal. Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Bouchard-Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket.
