VAN BUREN – Rene J. Lebel, 80, died Sept. 10, 2005, at a Van Buren nursing home. He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Hamlin, the son of Antoine and Mary Ann (Roy) Lebel. He was a navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post 49 of Van Buren. Rene was employed as a carpenter and millwright for most of his life. He is survived by one son, Alfred “Chou” Lebel and his wife, Lou Ann, of Brewer; three daughters, Rena Violette and her husband, Rene, of Grand Isle, Carline Berube and her husband, Roger, of Van Buren, Maxine Akerley and her husband, Kenneth, of St. Leonard, N.B.; one brother, Herbert Lebel of Conn.; two sisters, Janet Dumond of Biddeford, and Aurore Violette of Connecticut; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Rita, who he and his wife raised from an early age. Rene was predeceased by his wife, Sadie (Langlais) Lebel in 1978; by one grandson, Brent Lebel; two brothers, Lawrence and Leonard Lebel; two sisters, Corinne Bard and Rita Ricker. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, and 9 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
