CORTLAND, N.Y. – Richard A. Mace, 73, of 15 Excelsior St., died Thursday, May 12, 2005, peacefully at home after a long bout with leukemia. He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Bangor. He went to school and worked in Searsport until 1960 when he moved to New York State. He worked as a Draftsman and Drafting Supervisor at Cambridge Filter, Pall Trinity Micro and Hoffman Air Filtration during the next 39 years, retiring in April 1999. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia (Borden) Mace; son, Russell Mace of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Hart of Virgil, N.Y. and Anne Somers of Old Town; two brothers, James E. Mace Sr. of Searsport and Michael Mace of Solvay, N.Y.; 23 nieces and nephews; and two great-grandchildren. The family is extremely grateful for the kind attention of all of the health professionals, locally and at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Washington, who helped Richard, especially during the last 34 months of his life. Special thank to our local hospice staff. Calling hours will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Janet Lee, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virgil United Methodist Church or Caring Community Hospice of Cortland.
