BRADFORD – Richard Carl Niles, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior July 26, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Westfield, the son of Frank L. and May V. (Chase) Niles. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the European Theater. He provided for his family as a pipe fitter and worked for various contractors throughout Maine. Richard was a proud man full of character. He was a hard worker and it pleased him when others worked hard as well. Richard was a loyal Patriot’s and Red Sox fan. He attended Bradford Baptist Church and was a lifelong member of VFW Post No. 7163, Charleston. Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjorie (Pray) Niles; four sons, Larry R. Niles and wife, Susan, of Old Town, Carl A. Niles and wife, Elaine, of Skowhegan, Richard P. Niles and wife, Joyce, of Glenburn, and Pastor Donald N. Niles and wife, Linda, of Oakland; a daughter, Cindy M. (Niles) Bean and husband, Alden, of Bradford; two brothers, Albert and George Niles; a sister, Betty Allen; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Gene and Frank. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Bradford Baptist Church, Bradford, with the Rev. Donald Booker and Pastor Donald Niles, presiding. Interment will be at Williams Cemetery, Bradford. After the committal, the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Bradford Baptist Church Parish Hall.
