OLD TOWN – Richard Cary, 83, passed away May 28, 2008. He was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Bangor, the son of Carl and Ruth (Soucy) Cary. He married Leona (Cousins), Sept. 11, 1951. Richard graduated from Old Town High School in 1942, and afterwards worked at Penobscot Chemical Fiber and their successors for 46 years. Richard enjoyed all sports, and he was especially fond of bowling and golfing. He also enjoyed spending much of his time at his camp in Lincoln. He was a proud member of Holy Family Church and also Knights of Columbus. Richard was a gentle, quiet man, who was happiest in his own home, and with his wife and daughter. Richard was predeceased by one sister, Rita Cary Thibodeau; two brothers, Carroll Cary and Beverly Cary; and also by one nephew, Joseph David Thibodeau. He is survived by his wife, Leona; his daughter, Catherine Venekamp and her husband, David; nephew, Michael and Sharon Thibodeau, and their children, Anthony and Tanya; nephew, John and Marla Thibodeau, and their children, Chelsea and Matthew; niece, Donna and Jim Mundy; niece, Michele Cary Peavey and her children, Ian and Douglas; and niece, Jeanne Cary Schaller. He is also survived by his wife’s sisters and brothers, and their families who were very special to him. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town, with Father Thomas Farley officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately after in the parish hall. Interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
