MILLINOCKET – Richard D. Goodridge, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Cannan, the son of John and Hilda (Nelson) Goodridge. He was a graduate of Good Will Hinkley School, Class of 1940. Following high school graduation, Dick attended Colby College up to the time he entered the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. He served his country from June 1943 to November 1945 with the Combat Infantry Division. After having served his country, he returned to Colby College to complete his education and acquired a BA degree. He worked for Great Northern Paper Company for more than 30 years. He retired from the paper company in 1982 as Superintendent of Pulp at the East Millinocket Mill. He was a member and Trustee Chairman of the First Congregational Church of Millinocket, and was a scoutmaster with Troop 68 for five years. He was a member and Past Master of Nollesemic Lodge No. 205 AF & AM and a member of VFW Post No. 4154. He served on the board of directors and supervisory committee of the Katahdin Federal Credit Union. Dick was very involved with the Turkey Tail Road Association, serving on the board of directors, serving as association president for 1990 to 1995, and also serving as road commissioner. He was an avid snowmobiler and a member of the Maine Snowmobile Association. He was a VITA and TCE income tax aide for 12 years, a director and president of Northern Penobscot Credit Union Chapter, and also served on the board of directors and as president of Good Will Hinkley Alumni Association. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane C. (Caswell) Goodridge in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Margaret P. (Henreckson) Goodridge of Millinocket; a daughter, Jillane and husband, Neal DeWitt, of East Millinocket; a son, George Goodridge of Connecticut, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Goodridge of Connecticut; a sister, Lillian Dougherty of Bar Harbor; six grandchildren, Scott DeWitt, Jana DeWitt and husband, Colin Mulhern, Jennifer DeWitt, Richard Goodridge II, Darrell Goodridge and Amanda Goodridge; two great-grand-sons, Aidan and Ronan Mulhern; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Jimmy and Judy Bither. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where members and officers of Nollesemic Lodge No. 205 AF & AM will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church of Millinocket with the Rev. Carolyn Bradley and the Rev. Norman Rust officiating. Burial will be in Maine Veterans’ Cemetery at a later date.
