DOVER, N.H. – Richard Arthur Ruksznis, Sgt. 1st Class U.S. Army, Ret., 65, beloved widower, father and grandfather, passed away Feb. 22, 2005, with his family by his side. Dick was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Wilbur and Dorothy (Preble) Ruksznis. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Judith Neva (Gesell) Ruksznis. Dick served his country as a career military man. He served in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of dedicated service with honors. Dick was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 29 in Dover-Foxcroft. He served Post No. 29 as Commander and other positions through the years. Dick enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family. The past few years he truly enjoyed the time he spent with his five grandchildren. He moved to Dover, N.H. two years ago in order to be closer to them. He was extremely proud that Michael, Brennan and Anya were finally adopted into the family in November of 2004 and officially they became his grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters, Julia Van Aken and her husband, Todd, of Dover, N.H. and Nancy Ruksznis of Saco; five grandchildren, Nikolas, Katelen, Michael, Brennan and Anya Van Aken; his two sisters, Beverly Woodruff of Milford, and Shirley Young and her husband, Roger, of Cartersville, Ga.; and his brother, James Ruksznis and his wife, Brenda, of Dover Foxcroft. Funeral services will be conducted in the spring. The interment will be in the family lot in Gray Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are in the care of the Larry Funeral Home of Dover-Foxcroft, ME.
