RICHARD E. SKINNER MILLINOCKET – Richard E. Skinner, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at his home. He was born May 19, 1928, in Millinocket, the son of Edward M. and Nellie M. (Guiggey) Skinner. Richard grew up in Millinocket and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an entertainer while in the service and also afterwards. Richard was proud to have sung with Hank Williams Sr. while entertaining the troops. In 1990, some very generous and caring neighbors built him a house, which made him very happy and proud. The story of his home being built was carried by the Portland paper and as a result, he was interviewed on WERU radio, which also allowed him to sing for the radio audience. Richard also enjoyed entertaining people at Meals for Me. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 80, Millinocket. Richard will be remembered by many in the town of Millinocket. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Donna Hackney, Shirley Swetman and Carole Anderson, all of Atlanta, Natalie Brown, Barbara DiCentes and her husband, John, Paul Stewart and his wife, Fernande, Roger Stewart and his wife, Doris, Charles Stewart and his wife, Delores, Rena Landry and her husband, Walt, all of Millinocket, Nellie Dewitt and her husband, Bob, of Medway, Billy Skinner of Bangor and Ruth Buteau of West Springfield, Mass.; a stepniece, Mernard Moscone and her husband, Bob, of Millinocket; and many extended family members. Richard will also be missed by special friends, Richard and Money McGibbon. Shep, Richard’s faithful canine companion, will also miss Richard. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Bill Skinner and Mortimer Skinner; sisters, Beatrice Stewart and Cleo Farnell; and a nephew, Dougy Stewart. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Rudy Homchuck officiating.
