HAMPDEN – Richard Francis Wight, 86, husband of the late Jane Katherine (Donahue) Wight, passed away Feb. 23, 2005, at an Orono healthcare facility. He was born July 19, 1918, in Leeds, the son of Alfred and Ruby (Newcomb) Wight, and was the oldest living member of their family. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a contractor, and the owner of Eastern Construction Company for many years. Richard was a kind and gentle man, who loved animals, especially cats and dogs, gardening and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving, husband, father and grandfather. Richard is survived by two sons, Raymond N. Wight of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Robert A. Wight of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one daughter, Sandra McCarthy and her husband, Howard, of Marengo, Ill.; by seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane in 1990; his son, Richard E. Wight in January of 2005; and by a granddaughter, Lisa Wight in 1989. Services will be private and interment will be in the family lot at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden in the springtime. In keeping with Richard’s love for animals, gestures of remembrance may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693B, Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401.
