PITTSFIELD and NEWPORT – Richard George Penney, 70, died unexpectedly at his residence. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, at Pittsfield, a son of Howard and Elsie (Oakes) Penney. He was employed at Newport Shoe, Dexter Shoe, and then managed Lovley’s Motel for many years. Dick is survived by two sons, David Penney of St. Albans, Dale and wife, Kristen Penney, of Pittsfield; a daughter, Diane Barrett of Lewiston; a sister, Madeline Stanley of Dexter; his former wife of 44 years, Carolyn (Dunphy) Penney of Newport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Verna Pease and Bruce Bickford. Dick was also predeceased by a brother, Ralph. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport. Private burial will be in the family lot, Pittsfield Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
