STEUBEN – Richard S. Crowley, 75, died unexpectedly Aug. 1, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Beals, the son of Virgil F. and Adelaide K. (Faulkingham) Crowley, and grew up in Corea and lived in Steuben. The week after graduation from Winter Harbor High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, and retired after 20 years as a senior master sergeant. Later he worked for 20 years at the Winter Harbor Navy Base as a civilian employee, retiring April 1995, Richard enjoyed bowling, baseball, gardening, being outside, striper fishing, was a big Red Sox fan and was an avid reader. He also especially enjoyed his kitties Beau and Striper. Richard is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Ellie (Cole) Crowley; four children, Richard A. and his wife, Holly, of Ellsworth, Dianna S. Cotton and husband, Timothy, of Laramie, Wyo., Michael S. of Ellsworth and Joseph E. and wife, Heather; and three grandchildren, Kira, Dax and Anij of Hancock. He is also survived by one brother, Harvey and wife, Sharon, and their family of Hancock. Richard was predeceased by his parents. The family would like to thank the staff of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for their care and kindness. Services will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Steuben.
