VALATIE, N.Y. – Rita Gayle (McDonough) Boytos, 78, formerly of Norwalk and Wilton, Conn., Blue Hill and Valatie, N.Y., died Jan. 27, 2007, in Hudson, N.Y., after a courageous two-year battle with Alzheimers. Rita was a teacher whose enormous love of children touched everyone who had the joy of knowing her. She was the director of the Norwalk Jewish Center Nursery School before running her own school, Robin Hill Nursery School, Norwalk, Conn., for nearly 20 years. As a gifted teacher, she impacted a generation of children, several of whom invited her to their weddings many years later. She moved to Blue Hill with the love of her life, Ted, where they ran the Blue Hill Inn for several remarkable years, and where guests had the chance to experience Rita’s wonderful cooking and hospitality. She loved people, and cherished the many friendships she made as an innkeeper. Rita and Ted retired to Valatie, N.Y., where she spent her time baking, cooking and doting on her husband and five grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Rita is survived by her husband of 55 years; her daughter, Nancy Gayle Amanuel of Central Valley, N.Y.; her son, Geoffrey of Ridgefield, Conn.; five grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Claudia, Sydney and Hayley; and her brother, William of Wichita, Kan. Rita will be deeply missed, but joyfully remembered by all who knew her.
