DOVER-FOXCROFT and FORT FAIRFIELD – Rita M. McCarthy, 78, wife of the late Lewis H. Higgins, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing facility. She was born April 16, 1926, at Lillie, the daughter of Arthur and Celina (Moreau) Ouellette. Rita was a communicant of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six brothers, Reno, Lee and Guy Ouellette, infants Edward Ouellette and twins Patrick and Laurence Ouellette; two sisters, Dorothy Wolfe and Pauline Forte. She is survived by one brother, Leo “Jimmy” Ouellette of Harwinton, Conn.; two sisters, Anita Lauzone of Biddeford, Gertrude Buccelly of Shelton, Conn., several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul-Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield, following interment service. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Rita to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft and the Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
