INDIAN ISLAND – Rita Mae Dana 78, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 30, 1926, in Bangor, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Josephine U. Francis. Rita had worked as a CNA for The Orono Nursing Home and for various shoe factories in the Old Town area throughout her life. She lived a simple life as she enjoyed spending time at home knitting, sewing, basket weaving and with her cat. Rita was so proud that she and her husband, Roy, had built their house themselves using the wood from their own land. Rita also enjoyed spending time outdoors especially feeding the ducks on Indian Island. She will be remembered as an independent, free- spirited women who always had the right advice to give. She is survived and will be sadly missed by a daughter, Carol Dana of Indian Island; daughter, Janet Dana-Horne of Argyle; son, Roy F. Dana Jr. of Pleasant Point; daughter, Lana Dana of Indian Island, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grand-children; and sister, Jean Chavaree of Indian Island. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Roy F. Dana Sr.; sister, Beatrice Phillips; and brother Donald Francis. Friends may call 4 p.m. Thursday until time of Mass of Christian Burial 1 p.m. Friday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Indian Island with the Rev. Paul Kerns Celebrant.
