PALMYRA – Robert “Bob” A. Randall, 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his home, after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 28, 1935, the son of William and Florence (Leavitt) Randall. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961, as an aircraft and engine mechanic. Prior to entering the military, Bob worked as a carpenter with his father and he married his first wife, Natalie Schubert, with whom he had three children, Sheryl, Allen and Robin. When Bob left the military he resumed his carpentry career working with his brother in the family business. During his lifetime he helped build many homes and businesses in the region. Bob later married his second wife, Winnifred Dow Nelson, in 1970. Bob helped Winnie raise her sons, David, Kevin and Mark Nelson, plus they had two daughters together, Holly and Julie. Bob and Winnie lived most of their married life on the road, where Bob was born, the Badgerboro Road, Palmyra, near Bob’s family, including his brothers, Charles Randall and his wife, Jane, Jack Randall and wife, Doris; and his sister, Sudie Davis and her husband, Walter. In 1980 Bob and Winnie left Maine while Bob worked construction throughout the southern United States for Patten Construction, as a superintendent guiding projects throughout Georgia, Virginia and Texas. In 1991 they returned to their Palmyra home, where they lived out their final days together. Bob was an expert marksman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and NFL football with family and friends. Bob lost Winnie in 2003 and he dearly missed her in his life every day. Bob is survived by four sons, Allen Randall and companion, Wendy Miller, of Palmyra, David Nelson and wife, Terry, of Gerradstown, W.Va., Kevin Nelson of Canaan and Mark Nelson and wife, Sharyl, of Denver; four daughters, Sheryl Durkee and husband, Kevin, of Jonesport, Robin Randall and companion, Adam Willette, of Plymouth, Holly Brown and husband, David, of Palmyra and Julie Edmonson and husband, Larry, of Sumerduck, Va. Graveside services for Bob will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
