GLENBURN – Robert E. Avery, 65, went home to the Lord Feb. 26, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 25, 1943, in Bangor, to the late Lt. Col. Spofford E. Avery and Frances (Eastman) Avery O’Brien. As a child, Bob grew up in a military environment. Upon graduating from Brunswick High School in 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the U.S. Air Force, Bob was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas; Keesler AFB Biloxi, Miss.; Andrews AFB, Washington, D.C.; Pushaw AFB, Pakistan; and finally serving with the Defense Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon. While serving his country, Bob received several commendations including Expert Marksman Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal W/30LC, National Defense Service Medal, Outstanding Unit Medal W/40LC, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Upon retirement from the service in 1974, Bob returned to Bangor. He belonged to West Glenburn Community Club and was a member for 26 years of Brewer Eagles Club No. 3177. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted partner of 11 years, Dawn Quinn; her daughter, Jennifer and partner, John, and their son, J.J. and companion dog, Casey; two sisters, Susan O’Brien and Linda Lange, both of Santa Fe, N.M.; one niece, Stephanie Lee and family of Santa Fe, N.M.; one daughter, Robin Kindelberger and family of Pontiac, Ill.; and a son, Bret Avery and family of Missouri. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor with the Rev. Gregory DuBois, pastor of Glenburn Evangelical Covenant Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Spring interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
