EAST MACHIAS – Rose “Rosie” Marie (Hawkins) Lund, 80, passed away Feb. 26, 2008, with her family at her side at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rose was born, Aug. 11, 1927, in Wesley, the daughter of the late Thatcher and Bessie (Ingersoll) Hawkins. She was a kind and loving mother, wife and grandmother, the center of her family. She loved to play cribbage, miniature golf, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crafting things with her hands. She loved gardening, traveling, working puzzles and was an avid reader. Rose was employed many years by Marshall Manor, Machias. She is survived by her husband, Leo W. Lund of East Machias; three sons and one daughter, Wendall I. Lund of East Machias, Douglas W. Lund of Clinton, Stephen D. Lund of Alpharetta, Ga., and Audrey M. Lake and husband, Kenneth, of Highland Plantation; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, Michelle (Lund) Mobley and her husband, DeVon, of Dayton, Ohio, Melissa Lund of Madison, Wisc., Theresa Chausse and Todd Contois Sr. of Lebanon, N.H., Christopher Jordan and Christine Vielinski of Cutler, Richard Lund and Jessica Hanscom of Brewer, Roxanne Lund of Franklinton, La., Joshua and Devon Lund of Stetson; stepgrandchildren, John Bryant Jr. of Meridan, Conn., Kimberly Creamer and husband, Mark, of New Castle and Kelly Cossaboom and husband, Philip, of North New Portland; 14 great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Malia and Mariah Mobley of Dayton, Ohio, Sarah and Todd Contois Jr. of Lebanon, N.H., Kyle Lambert of Etna, Hannah Lund of Franklinton, La., Kaitlyn and Merissa Look of New Castle, Kelsie Kay of Glastonbury, Conn., and Ethan, Adrianna, Stephanie and Gabriella Cossaboom of North New Portland; two brothers and three sisters, Chester Hawkins and his wife, Faye, of East Machias, Alvah Hawkins and wife, Betty, of Wesley, Margarette Hatch of Machias, Josephine Ambrose of Sherman and Thelma Treadwell of Clinton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special cousin and friend, Juanita Nason. Rose was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Dalton W. Lund; and two brothers, Albert Hawkins and wife, Bernice, of Wesley and Lawrence Hawkins of Orono; a sister, Carrie Albee and husband, Lewis, of East Machias; and a great-grandson, Shawn Look of East Machias. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at Jacksonville United Methodist Church, East Machias, officiated by Pastor Patti Sears.
