BANGOR – Robert Clarke passed away Jan. 18, 2004, at the Maine Vet-eran’s Home in Bangor, after a brief illness. Born March 7, 1924, in Bangor, to Joseph and Ida Clarke, Mr. Clarke attended Bangor schools. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard a merchant ship as a gunner. After serving the Navy, he worked in area shoe shops and then for the City of Bangor for many years in various capacities, retiring from the Motor Pool where he worked as a custodian. Mr. Clarke was predeceased by his parents and several siblings. He is survived by a sister, Patricia Turner of Falmouth and Daphne, Ala., two brothers, William Clarke and his wife, Carlene of Concord, N.H. and John Clarke of Derry, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no services. Burial will be at Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta.
