BANGOR and PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Robert D. Bustin, 81, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007. He was born June 1, 1926, in Boston, son of the late Dillon Bustin and Grayce McChesney Bustin. Bob’s enthusiasm during aircraft school and his teaching in the U.S. Army encouraged him to pursue a profession in the communication field. His 40-year work span combined the design, development and the installation of microwave and fiber optic sites across our country. His hands on approach, with in-depth technical knowledge and his interest of people gave him years of satisfaction that continued with lifelong friends and acquaintances. Being a devoted husband and family man brought him much joy, especially when he was surrounded by loved ones at our gatherings near the ocean or during his boating recreation. Strong faith in God honored him with many opportunities to hold numerous positions at Plymouth United Methodist Church, a responsibility he enjoyed with family and friends. He is survived and missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Esther M. Bustin; four beautiful daughters, Susan and husband, Jim Courson, Northa Paulding, Earlene Ward and DeLynn Raymond; two wonderful sons, Michael Dillon and wife, Martha and Robert H. and wife, Karen. He was predeceased by one son, Brad. Another great joy and delight was having 13 grandchildren, Tom, Adam, Dillon, Brad, Cami, Lisa, Jenny, Mandi, Andy, Joshua, David, Susan and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Ava. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Bob’s life 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Plymouth United Methodist Church, 29 Carver Road, Plymouth, Mass. Any donations in his memory would be welcome at the Plymouth United Methodist Church or at Westgate Manor Nursing Home, 750 Union St., Bangor, where he was so lovingly cared for during his Alzheimer illness. Only family will be attending burial. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
