BANGOR – Robert D. Robinson, 70, passed away peacefully, Jan. 2, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Houlton, the son of Byron and Katherine (LaVigne) Robinson. Robert was a graduate of Houlton High School and the University of Maine at Orono. He joined the U.S. Army in 1958, where he served honorably for a two-year period. Robert taught and coached the children of Maine in Aroostook, Penobscot and York counties throughout his lifetime. A loving father, Robbie suffered the untimely loss of his son, Robert, at a young age, and devoted his life and energies to the education and development of his surviving son, John. He was predeceased by his mother, Katherine Robinson Cummings and father, Byron; a brother, Byron; and a sister, Dawn. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Ulli of Hirschhorn, Germany; his grandson, Robert, of Stockbridge, Ga.; his closest cousin, James Pike and his wife, Michelle; also special cousins, Kim, Sean and Joseph Pike; and their families; his stepfather, Woodrow Cummings; brother-in-law, Donald Aubin; and nieces, Dixie and Lisa and nephew David. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Mr. Frederick Harrigan, Deacon of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, presiding. Interment will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
