SOUTH PORTLAND – Perry A. Brown, 71, longtime resident of Briarwood Road in South Portland, formerly of Bangor died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Dixmont, a son of Woodie A. and Myrtle F. (Tinker) Brown. He was educated in Dixmont schools. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Perry A. Brown and Son Masonry for more than 50 years and also owned and operated P&J Variety Store on Brackett Street in Portland for more than 10 years. He was a member of the VFW Post of South Portland. Mr. Brown enjoyed gardening and doing jigsaw puzzles in his spare time. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce L. (Higgins) Brown who died in 1983. He is survived by two sons; Perry W. “Woodie” Brown of South Portland and Richard A. Gray of Portland; a daughter, Kathie M. Watts of Portland; two sisters, Barbara Marco of Old Town, Alyce Higgins of Albion; a brother, Wesley Brown of Bangor; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, with the Rev. Phil Shearman officiating. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
