EAST MILLINOCKET and CLEARWATER, Fla. – Robert “Bob” Bouchard opted to accept the head coach position with the Milky Way Little League team April 24, 2008. He was born Jan. 18, 1929, in Millinocket, to George Irving and Anna (Files) Bouchard. Bob graduated from Schenck High School, Class of 1947. He left to attend Ricker College, Houlton, where he earned an associate degree. More importantly, he met and married Helen Edna Sceggell, his wife of 57 years. After a brief stint with JC Penny, Houlton and Rochester, N.H., he and Helen returned to his hometown. Bob worked for Great Northern Paper Co., at both East Millinocket and Millinocket mills, as a quality control supervisor, until his retirement in 1986. Bob and Helen raised five children under the tenets of social responsibility – no man is an island, conservation of nature – always leave a place cleaner and better than you found it and a thirst for knowledge – “According to Time Magazine.” Bob and Helen also shared their love of both the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays with their family. They are Robert Jr. and his wife, Joan, of South Bristol, Paul and his wife, Judy, from Scarborough, Sherry Targonski of Monticello, Shawn and his wife, Cindy, of East Millinocket and Tom of Clearwater, Fla. Bob took an active role in community events. He spent more than 25 years as an active member of the Boy Scouts of America as Scoutmaster of Troop 55 and Kathadin Area Council. He worked with other community members to establish the Little League program for East Millinocket Recreation Department and coached the Yankees for many years. He was involved in both East Millinocket’s 75th birthday and the town’s bicentennial celebration. He also worked on several campaigns for local Republican candidates. In addition to his wife and children, Bob greatly enjoyed his grandchildren, Joshua, Jenna, Matthew, Laura, Shauna and Kyle Bouchard, Monica Cooper and her husband, Ben, Alisha and Bethany Targonski; and one great-grandchild, Aiden Cooper. He is the brother of Richard of Houston and Georgia Gray of Gloucester, Mass.
