OLD TOWN – Robert H. Melanson, 67, died unexpectedly Jan. 30, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 22, 1937, in Eaton, a son of Joseph and Eva (Stoddard) Melanson. Bob enjoyed pony and horse pulls at the fairs and was employed at the Bangor State Fair for several years. He will be remembered for his weekly auctions and his second-hand store in Old Town. He loved racing and enjoyed watching his boys race. He is survived by five children, Cindy Long and her husband, Bob, of Newark, Ohio, Rocky Melanson and his wife, Cindy, of Sebois, Ralph Melanson and his wife, Michele, of Charleston, Mary Ellen Church of Norfolk, Va., and Loretta MacDonald and her companion, Wayne Fortin, of Oakland; brothers and sisters, Leroy and Norma Melanson of Bradley, Noah Melanson of Connecticut, Barbara and Gilbert Grass of Lambert Lake, Helen Ryder of Connecticut, Jeanine and Dicky MacDonald of Connecticut; his 5-year companion, Alice Kalel of Orono; 14 grandchildren, five great-grand-children; best friend, Barry Kennedy; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his life companion of 33 years, Jeannette MacDonald; siblings, Joe Melanson, Jenny Landry, Alfie Melanson, Muriel Melanson and Billy Ryder. Friends may call 2-5 p.m. Thursday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. There will be no formal funeral services. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in the spring.
