MT. BETHEL, Pa. – Monique Serpette Transue was born on Sept. 18, 1912, in Paris, France, to Renee and Raoul Serpette. After father’s death in the battle of Verdun, she grew up at Deymier in Castelneau sur Gupie and in Bordeaux. She received a License es Sciences in chemistry from Universite de Bordeaux before marrying the love of her life, William Transue, on May 27, 1936. She returned with him to the United States, where she taught French at Mt Vernon High School and raised three sons. After many years in Mt. Vernon while her husband taught at Kenyon, she moved to Binghamton, N.Y., and then to Mt. Bethel, Pa., where she died peacefully at home on Jan. 17, 2005. She loved summers in Bucks Harbor, swimming in cold water, the creation and consumption of good food, travel, and music. She was a limitless font of stories who brought nine decades of memories and centuries of ancestral lore vividly to life. She was a faithful correspondent to beloved friends on two continents. She is survived by her husband, sons William and John; grandchildren, Kit, Tom, Emily and Joe Transue and Mimi Gersoff; and great-grandchild-ren, Owen Transue and Anya and Lindsay Gersoff. She was predeceased in death by her son, Jacques; and grandson John. She asked not to be grieved, but will be fiercely missed.
