ROCKWOOD – Robert J. Burns, 81, died March 22, 2006, at C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville. He was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Verplanck, N.Y., a son of Patrick and Marguerite (Keon) Burns. He graduated from Fordham University and served in the U.S. Naval Air Force during World War II. After the service, Bob taught school for 30 years in New York State. After teaching Bob retired to Rockwood to work at his hobby of woodworking and cabinet making. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Shokey) Burns of Rockwood; two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Shawne Pierson, and their son, Benjamin, all of Vernon Hills, Ill., and Margaret and Mark Vogl of Billings, Mont.; a brother, Patrick Burns of Oswego, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Greenville, with the Rev. Fr. William Modlin officiating.
