PITTSFIELD – Carla Rae Bertrand, 61, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 4, 1944, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Clifton and Madelyn (Boyd) Hunt. She attended and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1963. She married Paul Bertrand Dec. 7, 1963, in Pittsfield. Carla was well known for her unselfishness and giving and was always the first person to offer help and lend a hand. She was also known for her love of children. There were always kids in her sand pile and on her swing set. She loved youth sports and you could see and hear her cheering at the games. She had a great love of gardening. She was well-known for her cooking as she and her husband Paul had catered several weddings and other events. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Paul; four children, Nancy Shorey and her husband, Dave, of Pittsfield, Polly Doiron of Pittsfield, Thomas Bertrand and his wife, Angela, of Pittsfield, David Bertrand and his companion, Heather; seven grandchildren, Zachary Doiron, Kali Doiron and their father, Ralph, Alex Bertrand, Adam Bertrand, Nick Shorey, Aaron Shorey, Noah Russo; a sister, Marlene Ward and her husband, Bud, of Bangor; a brother, Homer Hunt and his companion, Jackie, of Turner; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her cat, Sam. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at First Baptist Church, South Main Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating.
