BERNARD – Robert Leon Tilden Sr., 76, died Aug. 8, 2008, at a Bar Harbor hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Ellsworth, the son of Leon and Margaret P. (Seeds) Tilden. Robert graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He graduated from Husson College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a minor in education. In his earlier years, Robert was a store manager/owner of Ellsworth IGA. In later years he worked as an office equipment salesman. Robert was past president of Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce and Hancock County Auditorium Association, a member of Ellsworth Rotary Club and an announcer on WDEA radio. His interests included golf, bridge and participating in the Gilbert & Sullivan Society and Ellsworth Players. Robert is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Dolliver) Tilden of Bernard; his children, Julie Tilden and husband, Duane Crawford, of Lamoine, Robert L. Tilden Jr. and wife, Lori, of Lamoine, Andrea Tilden and husband, Eric Thomas, of Waterville and Sarah Tilden-Warner and husband, Scott Warner, of Lincoln; stepdaughters, Garnet Johnson and husband, Ronald, of Bass Harbor and Lynn Leighton and husband, Craig, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Dustin Seavey, Tyler, Jordan and Connor Crawford, Leon and Ben Tilden, Olivia Benissan, William Thomas, Sam and Alex Warner, Emily and Katie Johnson, Erin and Chris Leighton; one great-granddaughter, Kayli Tilden; brother-in-law, Daniel Dolliver and wife, Hiromi, of South Portland; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Tilden of Franklin and Dorothy Pettegrow and husband, Farrell, of Ellsworth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Carlton Tilden; and sisters, Patricia Tilden and Betty Reed. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Tremont Congregational Church.
