LAMOINE – Robert “Bob” Abelson, 76, died on April 15, 2004, at the Vermont home of his daughter, after a long illness. Bob was born and educated in New York City. He received his bachelor’s of science degree from Queens College in 1950, his master’s degree in Statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1953, and his PhD in psychology from Boston University in 1960. He taught at medical schools and universities, retiring from the University of Maine at Orono in 1982. Bob loved growing tomatoes, playing Scrabble, traveling the U.S. in his camper van, starting home improvement projects and flying, as well as computers, politics, Acadia National Park, and his family. In recent years, he took great joy from time spent with his grandchildren. Bob is survived by one son, Steve of Candia, N.H.; two daughters, Jane Brzozowski and her husband, Steve, of Goffstown, N.H.; Laura Mueller and her husband, Andy, of Dummerston, Vt.; five grandchildren, Sally and Kathleen Brzozowski, Jill Abelson, Sophie and Max Mueller; and a cousin who was like a brother, Robert P. Abelson of Hamden, Conn. A memorial gathering will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, May 23, at Bob’s house in Lamoine. For those who wish, gifts in his name may be made to Friends of Acadia, P.O.
