BLAINE – Robert Mahan, 71, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, surrounded by his family, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Mars Hill, the son of Frank and Ruth (Broad) Mahan Sr. Bob was a graduate of the Aroostook Central Institute in 1952 and then attended college at the University of Maine – Orono. He served in the United States military. Bob worked for more than 30 years for the Maine Public Service before retiring as a leadman, and then started to work at Sargent & Tweedie Trucking. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Betty (Cheney) Mahan of Blaine; two daughters, Pam Townsend and her husband, Harvard, of Blaine and Peggy “Tom” Robinson and her husband, Glen “Peanut,” of Blaine; grandchildren, Derek Townsend and his wife, Penny, Matthew Townsend and his wife, Kelly, Jordan Robinson and Jessica Robinson; great-grandchildren, Brianna Townsend, Dawson Townsend, Charlotte Townsend; three brothers, Frank “Sam” Mahan Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Mars Hill, Richard Mahan and his wife, Dorcas, of Blaine and Wallace Mahan and his wife, JoAnn; a brother-in-law, Ernest York of Mars Hill; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ola and Paul Wise of San Antonio; a special friend, Dick Porter of Blaine; his extended family at Sargent & Tweedie Trucking; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by a brother, Paul; a sister, Charlotte York; his father-in-law, Adonis Cheney; and mother-in-law, Eleanor Cheney. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Morency, celebrant. Interment will take place after the service at King’s Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill.
