PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office Human Resources Director Robert N. Moore, 58, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away unexpectedly July 27, 2005, while vacationing with his family in Key West, Fla. He was born Feb. 1, 1947, in Islap, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and nine-year old daughter, Cassandra “Cassi”. Director Moore, graduated from both St. Lawrence University and Albany Law School. He held his bar admissions in New York and Maine. He practiced private law before entering what ultimately became an impressive career in public service. Director Moore joined the State of Maine Bureau of employee relations as an employee relations counsel, later becoming a senior employee relations counsel. Director Moore transferred to the State of Maine Department of Public Safety where he worked as an assistant commissioner before becoming a deputy commissioner for the State of Maine Department of Agriculture. He then returned to the State of Maine Department of employee relations as director. A dream of retiring in Florida led the avid boater and his family to the Sunshine State. Director Moore became general manager of Human Resources for the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners. After serving five years in Sarasota, Director Moore joined the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He quickly became a well-liked and respected leader who will be greatly missed. Although he only served the agency for a few months, his strong background in labor-relations led him to quickly forge key alliances with representatives within Broward Sheriff’s Office. Director Moore was a member of several professional associations, including the Florida Public Personnel Association (FPPA), the Florida Public Employee Labor Relations (FPELR), the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA). A celebration of his life was held Aug. 6, 2005, at the Kays-Ponger Chapel in Punta Gorda, Fla. A memorial fund has been established for his daughter’s education.
