STARBOARD – Richard S. Pettegrow Sr., 73, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Starboard, Aug. 16, 2005. He was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Larrabee, the son of Capt. Edwin F. and Helen (Sprague) Pettegrow. He attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, being honorably discharged after spending a year at Thule, Greenland. In November 1971, he founded Pettegrow Boat Yard which he owned and operated until 2001. He remained active in the business with his son’s help up to the time of his death. He loved spending time at his hunting camp with his family and in his boat hand lining for halibut. Richard was well-liked and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nettie; a daughter, Lisa Berg and fiance, Paul Holmes, of Bucks Harbor; a son, Richard Pettegrow Jr. and wife, Samantha, of Perry; grandchildren, Shaun, Richie, Jessica, Riley, Gabryelle, Kelsey, Ryan and Bryttani. He is also survived by a sister, Rachel and husband, Ronald Aubens, of Lakeland, Fla.; a niece, Linda Leighton of Massachusetts; and a nephew, Darren Pettegrow of Corinth. He was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Ann in 2002. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
