BANGOR and LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Robert Neff Soulas, 85, passed away peacefully Nov. 29, 2006, in Lake Worth, Fla. He was born Feb. 18, 1921, the son of George and Evjenia (Hassis) Soulas. One of six children, Bob was raised in Philadelphia. After honorably serving in the U.S. Army and Navy during World War II, he returned to Philadelphia where he continued working for the Navy. He traveled to Bangor in 1946, where he met his wife of 60 years, Theodora “Doris” Zoidis. He owned and operated a number of small businesses and along with his wife owned Sonotone Hearing Aids of Bangor, until their retirement in 1995. He had a passion for politics and community service. He served on Bangor’s City Council and represented Bangor as a legislator in the State of Maine House of Representatives for 5 terms, serving as chairman of the House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions. For more than 50 years he was an active member and 32nd degree Mason with St. Andrews Lodge AF & AM, Bangor, and was active with the Chanters, as a member of the Anah Shriners, Bangor. He continued his active involvement in the community and other charitable organizations, most notably in supporting the Bangor YMCA. As a Christian man, he was active in supporting the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Bangor, where he was past president. Bob was a hard worker who also had a great passion for golf. If not on the golf course, he could be found at garage sales buying used golf clubs or in his garage refurbishing them to be sold or given to someone in need. He is survived by his devoted wife, Theodora; son, Robert of Houston; daughter, Linda Knoblock of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and son, Bruce of Lake Oswego, Ore.; seven grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, with the Rev. Adam Metropoulos, presbyter, officiating.
