NORTH BROOKLIN – Robert “Bob” W. Richmond, 92, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. He was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Adams, Mass., the son of Harold E. and Anne B. Richmond, of South Hanover, Mass. He lived and was educated in Hanover, Mass. He earned a degree in business administration from Boston University in 1938. While at Boston University he was a valued player on their baseball team. From his early days, baseball was his passion. He was an assistant coach for Little League in Brooklin. He was an avid University of Maine Black Bear hockey fan, traveling for years to Alfond Arena with his son into his 90th year. Hunting and fishing, as well as gardening were also his hobbies. Finishing touches on the duck blind were always left to him. If his doctrine were common, D.I.F.W. would have no need for a land owner relations program. In 1940, he married Carolyn Sherman of Pembroke, Mass., and together they raised four children. Bob participated in the World War II effort as a payroll clerk at National Fireworks Munitions Co., and as a member of the National Guard of Plymouth County, Massachusetts division. He was a member of the Pemobroke, Mass., volunteer fire fighters, and later in Thorndike. He was a selectman and on the planning board in the town of Frankfort. Bob retired as a sales representative for an advertising firm that took him from the top of Aroostook County to all of eastern Maine. Special thanks to George Allen for providing a certain spruce tree as a deer stand and to Sheldon Gray, an endearing, good neighbor, mower of the fields of “Old Grovehurst.” Bob will be remembered as the blend-master at the annual family cider squeezes. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; a brother Donald Richmond and wife, Ruth, of St. Louis; a sister, Elizabeth R. Anthony of Columbus, Texas; two daughters, Carol Richmond-Diskus of Jonesport and Nancy Went-worth of Orland; two sons, Deane and wife, Kay, of Machias and Mark and wife, Gena, of Cherryfield; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon Richmond of Whitman, Mass., and Mark Stanley Richmond of Swampscott, Mass.; a son-in-law, Robert “Rob” Wentworth of Orland; and two grandchildren, Rebecca and Todd Harden of Beals Island. The family extends their gratitude and thanks to the staff of Island Nursing Home and Hospice of Hancock County for their compassion, patience and gentle, loving care of our loved one. Funeral services will be private and burial will be at Rural Cemetery, Sedgwick. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to Island Nursing Home, care of Becky Siebert, 587 North Deer Isle Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627 or a charity of your choice.
