LUBEC – Roberta Louise “Betty” Rier went to be with her Lord and Savior July 21, 2006, while sleeping peacefully at her daughter’s home in South Addison. She was born March 30, 1924, in Wood Island, Grand Manan, the daughter of Charles and Marjorie Ramsdell. Betty took pride in keeping her yard nice and worked very hard to do so. She loved to bake apple pies, brownies and cakes with strawberry frosting, and taught her children and grandchildren how to do so too. She also enjoyed going to church on Campobello Island where she used to take her grandchildren, who she loved so very much. She was a beautiful person inside and out. We not only miss her as a mother and grandmother, but we will miss her as a friend. Betty spent countless hours on her knees praying for everyone she knew and even for people she didn’t know. She accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was seven years old and was dedicated to praying for and helping others. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Babe” Rier; her parents, Charles and Marjorie Ramsdell; three sisters, Lois, Leora and Uta; one brother, Jasper; grandchilren, Wayne, Kelley and Timmy Rier and Michael Pitkin. She leaves two children, Donna and husband, Thurston Manchester Jr. and William Rier and wife, Gail; one brother, Glendon Ramsdell; grandchildren, Anna Carver and husband, Fred, Alessandra and Natasha Boada and Jason and Sara Carver, Thurston Manchester III and wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Randy and Robert Starkey, Chrisann Tinker and husband, Shawn, and their children, Cassandra, Shauna and William, Debbie Dixon and her daughter, Heather, Shirley Brown and husband, David, and their children, Debra, Jenny and Michael, Michelle Sawtelle and her husband, Michael, and their children, Britteny, Leanne, Ralph and Michael Jr. Betty also requested to mention several dear and special friends, June Swigger and family, Cheryl Sawtelle and family, Hazel Avery, Barbara Alderman and Pastor Gary Look. She would also like us to thank the hospice team and the exception care that they gave her. Mother, grandmother and friend, we prayed that God would take you and we all know where you are. First we’re happy, then we’re sad, for heaven is so far. We’ll cherish all the love you gave, and knowing you so long, but we wonder who will pray for us, now that you are gone. So for now we’ll try to let you go, but our souls will never part. And with every tear will go a memory and a little piece of heart. We love and miss you so much. Graveside services will be held in August with Pastor Gary Look officiating.
