TROY – Francis Ralph Luce, 78, died Monday, July 21, 2006, at his home. Francis was born June 26, 1928, in Troy, the son of Ralph and Eva (Call) Luce. He attended schools in Troy and Unity. He was in the Army and was stationed in Japan. Francis and his red dump truck will be well remembered. He worked for San Antonio Shoe in Pittsfield for more than 40 years. He also had many other enterprises. He built houses, owned a well-drilling rig for a few years and was also a partner in an underwater salvage company. He had an airplane and loved to travel. For fun, he liked to play poker, hunt and enjoy the lake. He was predeceased by his parents. Francis is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bessie (Fletcher) Luce of Troy; one son, Stanley Luce of Troy; two grandsons, Wade Luce of Clinton and Matthew Luce of Troy; a sister, Beverly (Luce) Mallett of Brewer; as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Roger’s Cemetery in Troy. Arrangements are with Lawry Brothers Memorial and Remembrance Centre, 42 Depot St., Unity.
