WHITNEYVILLE – Roderick Peter McMullen, 81, passed away at the Marshall Health-care Facility in Machias on June 17, 2004. He was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Whitneyville, the son of the late Roderick and Mary (McDonald) McMullen. Roderick lived all of his life in Whitneyville, with the exception of the time spent in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism while serving aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, Argo. Rod worked at the Whitneyville Mill, St. Regis Paper Co., Champion International Paper, Pineo Mill and for the Holy Name Catholic Church. He also volunteered his time at the Machias Food Pantry. He was a graduate of Machias Memorial High School and a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church. He enjoyed working in the woods and taking care of horses. Rod loved people, especially children, and was a friend to everyone. Rod was predeceased by his loving wife, Ezzetta D. McMullen in Jan. 1992; and a sister, Hannah McMullen. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Lenita Look and husband, Carlton; three step granddaughters, Carlene Harmon and husband, Wayne, Gracie Hanscom and husband, Grant, and Lori McBrine and husband, Joseph; six step-great-grandchildren; cousin, Katherine Manning of Massachusetts; special friends, Carlene and Lyman Holmes and family and many others. He will sadly be missed by all family and friends. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home in Machias. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Michael Sheridan presiding. Interment will immediately follow at the Look’s Point Cemetery in Jonesboro. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Mr. McMullen’s memory to the Holy Name Catholic Church, P.O.
