GUILFORD – Rodney Philip Willey, 73, died Aug. 30, 2007, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Guilford, the son of John F. Willey and Myra M. (Stewart) Willey Pfuntner. He attended Guilford schools and was employed as a cost accountant at Guilford Woolen Mill for 14 years. In 1971, he moved to Connecticut and was employed at Pratt & Whitney for five years. After moving back to Dover-Foxcroft, he enjoyed working at Kelley Brothers, Guilford and Milo, and at Northeast Log Homes, Kenduskeag, where he is most likely to be remembered by the name of “Discount Rod,” reciting his limericks on WDME Saturday mornings. He had lived in his hometown of Guilford for the past 19 years. He was a member of the Guilford basketball and baseball teams and a member of the bowling leagues at Ben Mor Lanes and Rocket Lanes. He was an active member of the Guilford Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed quiet outdoor country living, hunting, vegetable and flower gardening, was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and loved the company of his family, who will all miss him very much. He is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Woodworth and her husband, Brian S., of Guilford Center and Pami L. Hall of Bangor; a son, Rod S. Willey and his wife, Heather D., of Sangerville; four grandsons, Scott R. Willey Jr. of Leistcester, Mass., Stewart R. Willey of Vineland, N.J., Bryan R. White of Guilford and Corie P. White of Guilford; two granddaughters, Katie L. Hall of Bangor and Meriel L. Willey of Sangerville; stepchildren, Macy Gardiner of Springvale, Marty Taylor of Sangerville, Kelly Taylor of Guilford, Andy Taylor of Dover-Foxcroft and Jackie Watt of Saco; a brother-in-law, Bernard Crabtree of Monson; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Willey of Guilford; several nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be sadly missed by a special friend, Nancy Thompson of Guilford. He was predeceased by a son, Scott R. Willey; a brother, John F. Willey Jr.; and a sister, Alice (Willey) Crabtree. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Rod’s life 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Guilford Center Grange Hall. Private memorial graveside services in the family lot at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford, will be held for the family.
