DOVER-FOXCROFT – Virginia W. Bradford, 89, died Aug. 31, 2007, at a local nursing home after a long illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Brewer, the daughter of Caleb H. and Marie (Ouellette) Weston. She attended schools in Dover-Foxcroft and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1937. After graduating in 1942 from the University of Maine, she taught school in South Paris and Orono. She returned to Dover-Foxcroft in 1945 to marry Charles Bradford and start a family. She retired from teaching at Foxcroft Academy in 1982. Virginia was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a founder and charter member of the Junior Cosmopolitan Club and a communicant at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, where she served as organist for many years. She was active in the Foxcroft Academy Band Boosters and co-chaired the Maine All-State Music Festival. For many years, she was in charge of the American Cancer Society’s annual fund raising campaign in Dover-Foxcroft. Her hobbies were traveling the coast of Maine, bird watching, rose gardening and going to the horse races. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Dover-Foxcroft; two daughters, Margaret Patzner and her husband, Phillip, of Reno, Nev., Elizabeth Gould and her husband, Timothy, of Lowell, Ariz.; one son, Robert Bradford and his wife, Wendy, of Guilford; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to call 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Private interment will be in the family lot at Lee Cemetery.
