BREWER – Roger C. Ellis, 70, formerly of Westwood, Mass., and Mill Valley, Calif., died May 14, 2008, in Brewer. He was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Boston, son of the late Geroge and Anna (Thompson) Ellis; and was the brother of the late Shirley (Ellis) Stein of Deerfield Beach, Fla. Roger was a top football player at Westwood High School playing center and is in their Hall of Fame. At the University of Maine, he equally performed in an outstanding manner as center, being named most valuable player. His superior football capabilities led him to play professionally with the New York Titans for several years. From there his career path took him to an important role as a Secret Service agent with White House, details protecting Vice President Spiro Agnew, President Ford and President George H.W. Bush. Roger’s life was a statement of “You can never do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” As such, Roger developed friendships and close personal relationships from his kindly acts and concern for others. This included his love for animals, especially dogs. His charitable donations and work to a multitude of shelters and humane societies was ongoing. It was his wish to be cremated and be interred at his family lot at Olde Westwood Cemetery, Westwood, Mass., which will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any remembrance of Roger (dog walker at the Animal Orphanage of Old Town) will be appropriate to any animal protective organization of your choice. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. Condolences may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
