SURRY – Roger Elwyn Kane, 84, died July 19, 2008, at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Surry, the son of George E. and Hazel (Berdeen) Kane. Roger served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Ira Berry Lodge No. 128 of Blue Hill, and American Legion and VFW of Fort Kent. Roger was a member of Surry United Methodist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean M. (Howlett) of Surry; sons, Larish Kane and wife, Susan, of Milton, N.H., and Roger Kane and wife, Joyce, of Portland; daughters, Barbara Kurr and special partner, Wilmot Benjamin, of Easton and Nancy Charette and husband, Daniel, of Mapleton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Alan. Calling hours will be held 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, with a funeral service 2 p.m. at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, Surry, at a later date.
