PENOBSCOT – Roger G. Flannery, 73, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Penobscot, a son of Lyle and Gladys (Closson) Flannery. Roger had many passions in life; he was first and foremost a family man, enjoying his time spent with his wife, sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing, and looked forward to the families’ yearly trip to Baxter State Park on Memorial Day weekend for fishing. Roger enjoyed woodworking, garden-ing and making many crafts that the families still enjoy. He had a love for animals, especially horses; he spent many hours teaming them. Roger en-joyed going to the fairs, especially the Blue Hill Fair with his sons, watching pulling events. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He worked for and retired from the Maine Department of Trans-portation, retiring in 2000, after 34 years of service. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife, Margot (Cossmann) Flannery; three sons, Ronald Flannery and his wife, Debbie, of Iron Mountain, Mich., David Flannery and his wife, Jean, of Bucksport and John Flannery of Penobscot; daughter-in-law, Becky (Flannery) Wilbur and her husband, Tim, of Hancock; eight grandchildren, James Flannery Jr., Joseph Flannery, Derek Wilbur, Danielle Flannery, Roger Flannery, Mallory Flannery, Megan Flannery and Ashley Flannery; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Flannery; five brothers and sisters, Helen Varnum of Penobscot, Edward Flannery and his wife, Jeanne, of Orland, Kenneth Flannery and his wife, Pat, of Stockton Springs, Betty Twee-die and her husband, Brian, of Bucksport and Hildred Emerton and her husband, Linwood, of Blue Hill; sisters-in-law, Donna Flannery of Orland, Adelheid Cossmann of Germany and Frieda Abati of France, and their families; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by one son, James Flannery Sr.; one brother, Robert Flannery; and one brother-in-law, Curt Varnum. Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Penobscot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roger’s memory may be made to Penobscot Fire Department, care of Dennis Robertson, P.O.
