HANCOCK – Roger T. “Rod” Gatcomb, 87, died Aug. 18, 2005, at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. He was born Feb. 6, 1918, in Hancock, the son of Dewey and Agnes (Moon) Gatcomb. He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia. Rod was a wonderful father and grandfather. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, stationed in Iceland and Europe. For 37 years, Rod worked for the State Highway Maintenance Division. He loved to travel, go camping and enjoyed long rides in the car. He also enjoyed the many times at his camp on the Ferry Road with family and friends. Rod was an avid Red Sox fan and regularly enjoyed listening to the games on the radio. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Jimmie Awalt, of Hancock; granddaughters, Debbie and her husband, Lincoln Ehrlenbach, of Hancock, Jamie Awalt of Bangor, Karen and her husband, Paul Brown, of Lamoine; great-grandchildren, Erin and Ashley Ehrlenbach and Jimmie, Jennifer and Jared Brown; sister, Evelyn Jones of Sullivan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gatcomb of Bar Harbor; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Austin and Emery Gatcomb; two sisters, Pauline Wilbur and Marie Perkins. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Phil Devenish officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock.
