OTTAWA ONTARIO, CANADA – Roger William Fisher, U.S. Customs Ret., 72, died peacefully in his sleep at the Colonel By Retirement Residence, Ottawa Ontario, Canada on Feb. 3, 2004. The beloved husband and best friend of the late Dorothy Fisher (Tingley), who passed away in 1991; and son of the late Harley Fisher and late Ann Gelvin. He was predeceased by sister, Mary Lou; sister-in-law, Virginia. He was the loving father of Andrea and her husband, Roger Mailloux, of Ottawa, and Michael of Maine; proud grandfather of Sarah, Emily and Melanie of Ottawa; dear brother of Tom and his wife, Maria, of Massachusetts, and Bob and his wife, Lorraine, of Vermont; dear brother-in-law to, Cathy and Fred of Virginia, Terry and Dick and of Massachusetts. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and close friends, Elaine and Gene of Bangor, Sue and George of Georgia, Fran and Bob of New York, and the late Carlene and Carl of New Hampshire; and many, many others. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends, positive outlook on life, hard work, honesty, integrity, smile and laughter, along with his warm and gentle manner. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff at Phillip-Strickland House in Bangor, and the Colonel By Retirement Residence in Ottawa. Born May 26, 1931 in Elmira, N.Y., he was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1949, and the University of Maine, Orono in 1958 with a degree in business and economics. He served in the Navy from 1951-1955, abroad the ship U.S.S. Newport News (1953-54), 223 Training Group (1951). He worked as a U.S. Customs Officer in Vanceboro from 1963-1990. Memberships included American Legion, Masons, and Elks Lodge in Littleton, N.H. He enjoyed gardening and bee keeping with his wife, spending time at camp, visiting family and friends, and fixing things in his tool shed. He also enjoyed reading, fine dining, walking, hunting, fishing and playing golf. A memorial service was held at the Colonel by Retirement Residence on Feb. 9, 2004. He will be buried beside his beloved Dorothy in the Vanceboro Cemetery. A gravesite service is planned for the Summer of 2004.
